For my friends, in memory of Belvedere

Belvedere was their only child. They had been known as "the sheepdog couple" for over 13 years. Losing him meant losing part of their identity. It's like having your heart ripped from your body and run through a shredder.
Even in his final days, after the necessary call to the vet, Belvedere spent his remaining strength licking tears from the faces of his grieving people. He guarded their devestation and protected them from the depths of melancholy up to the very end. He was their friend, their love.
There are no words that can take away the grief my friends must feel. There is no action that can undo the hurt. There is nothing in the universe that can fill that giant sheepdog-shaped hole in their hearts right now.
This is in memory of Belvedere, and that wonderful race of dogs that he represented, and all the love he shared with Bryan and Allison between 1996 and 2010.
